The Kli, Adziman and Mama Vena's Traditional Festival has proven over the years to be the only true Protector and Preserver of the Tradition and Culture of the Anlos in the Volta Region of Ghana.
This festival is celebrated in the month of August every year in Klikor in the Ketu South Municipal. People from all over Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, among others religiously take part in this celebration.
The 2025’s celebration commenced from early July to the middle of August, characterized by spiritual and traditional activities led by Torgbi Fiangor Womegbeameo of Klikor Apegame with the support of the three High Priests.
This year's was very special becasues, for the first time in five years all the three powerful Shrines of Klikor fully participated. Torgbi Gagli Asipodi II of Adzima Shrine (Klikor Apegame), Torgbi Nuwordu II of Mama Vena Shrine (Klikor Ablotsivia) and Torgbi Tsrikpakpe Amevor II of Mama Vena Shrine (Klikor Ablorgame).
Speaking to OneForumNews1, the Managing Director of Senyo Traditional TV, Mr. John Yao Agbetsiafa explained that the festival always begins with "Ebli tsortsor". Which has to do with the putting together of farm produces, largely maize, millets for the production of traditional wine and other accompanying food products for the festival.
One major ritual during the processes is the Ban on drumming and noise making. This is to give a serene and quiet environment for the Gods and the High Priests to have the peace of mind to offer special prayers to the Gods and the Ancestors on behalf of the people of Klikor and for others from all over the world.
Other spiritual activities are "Ekpor-tortor" that involves the men repairing and refurbishing the fence walls of the shrines, which are now largely made with cement blocks. During this process, the men pray and present their wishes to the Gods for protection, good health and success in their businesses.
On the part of the Women, they also on a given day take part in a spiritual activity called "Balili". Balili has to do with mixing and preparation of clay to polish the "Floxor". And during the course of doing that, the women also solemnly pray to the Gods for good health, protections, fruit of the womb, success in their businesses, among others.
They by requirement use calabash in fetching the clay that is originally gotten from a specific place in Klikor. The women are mostly led by the leader of the "Fiashidis".
"Tagba yiyi", that has to do with the spiritual journey of all the High Priests to the sacred forest is one major spiritual event that brings over thousands of people to Klikor to pray to the Gods and pledge or swear an oath to the Gods for protections, good health and successes in their businesses.
In the sacred forest, many spiritual activities take place, and you are only qualified to take part if you are fully holy, pure and without any stain of evil.
A holy communion of "Edza" made with millet and wine made with maize are served there. And is eaten only in the forest without you taking it home.
Mr. Agbetsiafa reiterated to OneForumNews1 that despite all the processes of the Kli, Adzima Mama Vena's Traditional Festival are important, the journey of the High Priests and the people to the sacred forest is one of the most spiritually valued one that nobody should missed.
He further highlighted that the lifting of the ban on noise making is also done to allow for other activities like traditional drumming and dancing by various groups from Klikor and its environs to perform as a form of entertainment for the people.
Mr. Agbetsiafa encouraged all those that have lost touch of their culture and traditions to mark August on their Calanders irrespective of their religion and beliefs and visit Klikor for an unadulterated culture and traditions as well as great tourist attractions.
