Ten people have died and several others were injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned on the N1 in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo.
The bus was travelling from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg when the accident happened just before midnight.
Limpopo Transport spokesperson Phuti Lekganyane says preliminary investigations show that the bus drove over a roundabout at high speed, and the driver lost control and overturned.
Five men and five women died in the crash.
Lekganyane says the scene has been cleared, and the injured passengers have been taken to various hospitals in the Makhado municipality.
“According to reports, the bus seemingly drove over a roundabout at a high speed and overturned. Its driver is reportedly new in his job, and there are possibilities that he could not have been familiar with the surroundings. The MEC has sent messages of condolences to the families of the deceased and urged all motorists to drive with caution at all times,” says Lekganyane.
