The watchdog for public health on the continent, the Africa Center for Disease Control, has alarmed at the increasing number of cases of the Mpox disease in the region.
The center's Director General, Dr. Jean Kaseya, said during an online briefing that sharing bodily fluid is a reason for the spike in some areas, including eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where 60 percent of cases are children under 15. "And we know it's sexual transmission...this one is a major alarm for the world," he said.
