President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Ghazouani has been selected as the next Chairperson of the African Union (AU) for 2024, succeeding President Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros, who served in the rotating posts during 2023. Missing from the official agenda is the conflict in Sudan.
