The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared an indefinite strike from October 3, 2023 over the hardship caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu's administration, writes Premium Times.
Fuel price increases has driven up production and transportation costs, leading to higher food and commodity prices in recent months.
The unions said the strike was to demonstrate their resolve for a truly independent Nigeria and to take their destinies into their own hands. They also said that the strike is to protest the government's insensitivity to the suffering of Nigerians and its refusal to address the economic challenges facing the country.
The government has appealed to the unions to shelve the strike, but the unions have said that they will go ahead with the strike unless their demands are met.
