(Security): Suspected Pirates Hijack passenger Boat in Nigeria

Suspected pirates have hijacked a passenger boat along the Soku-Abonema waterways in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening, August 2, 2023, when the boat was said to be heading to Soku from Abonema.

It was gathered that the hoodlums ferried the passengers into the mangrove, drop them alongside the driver, and sped off with the boat.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, Isreal Pepple, said the frequent attacks along the waterways were worrisome.

Pepple further said people were now afraid to travel along the waterways, even as he expressed concerns over the safety of those in the mangrove.
