(Politics): Former Minister of Finance in Ghana, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey is Dead


News is reported in Accra, Ghana of the death of the former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, he was 78 years. Dr. Botchwey was born on 13th September, 1944 and died on the 19th November, 2022. He was a Ghanaian government official and Professor of Practice in Development Economics at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University.

According to sources, he died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving treatment. Prior to his demise, he was a key member of the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress.

Dr. Botchwey was a Minister of Finance and Economic Planning from 1982 to 1995. Making him one of the longest serving Ministers in Ghana. He was appointed by the late Jerry John Rawlings to assist in stabilizing Ghana's collapsed economy. Which he did with distinction from the PNDC era to the NDC era.

Dr. Botchwey received his secondary school education at the Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School in Ghana. And held an LL.B. from the University of Ghana, a LL.M from Yale Law School, and a doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School.

He also taught at the University of Zambia, the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and the University of Ghana.
