The Volta Reginal Minister, Mr. James Gune together with with the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, Deputy Minister, Hon. John Setor Dumelo, Feed Ghana Coordinator, Hon. Bright Demordzi, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, MMDCEs, farmers and other stakeholders gathered at Anloga yesterday, September 15, 2026, for the national launch of the Ghana Tomato Self-Sufficiency Initiative (GHATSI).
The launch was under the theme, “Produce at Home. Feed the Nation. Export the Surplus,” the initiative seeks to boost local tomato production, processing and marketing, while reducing Ghana’s reliance on imported tomatoes.
According to Mr. Gunu, the Volta Region has enormous agricultural potentials. And their focus must therefore be on connecting our farmers to the resources, technology, financing and markets they need to increase production, create jobs and build sustainable livelihoods.
He was extremely grateful to the Hon. Minister for Food and Agriculture for the support announced for the Region, including two excavators, 200 cartons of organic fertiliser, and GH¢200,000 for Ms. Kuatudzo Esther Dela, a tomato farmer and processor from Ziope.
This is an important step towards making agriculture a stronger driver of food security, job creation and economic growth in the Volta Region.
