Residents and citizens of Anlo have expressed concern following reports that the residence of Torgbi Kadzahlo IV, Dufia of Anlo-Afiadenyigba, has been severely affected by flooding that recently impacted several communities within the Anloga District and Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.
A video circulating on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, shows the disheartened chief appealing to the public, humanitarian organizations, and relevant authorities for assistance for himself and members of his community who have been affected by the disaster.
The footage has generated widespread discussions among Anlo citizens both at home and abroad. Many have raised questions regarding the support systems available to traditional leaders and vulnerable residents during emergencies. Some of the concerns and criticisms on the lips of many include:
1. Where are the elders and traditional advisers before the Chief in question appeared the way he did in the viral video and whether adequate support has been provided by the chief's elders and traditional advisers?
2. What are the roles of Clan and family members in ensuring the safety and welfare of the Chief?
3. Whether immediate relocation and emergency assistance could have been arranged for him.
4. What are the responsibilities of traditional institutions and community leadership structures in times of crisis?
5. Why is the Anlo Traditional Council not providing supports for Chiefs and affected communities in times like this?
6. The vulnerability of the Chief's residence, which is often regarded as a place of refuge for community members during emergencies like this.
7. Discussions regarding the chief's use of the title "Apostle" alongside his traditional title and role, which has sparked serious debate among some members of the public. As they argued that Chiefs are the custodians of Custom and traditions.
Flooding remains a recurring challenge for several towns and villages situated along the Avu Lagoon. During the rainy season, rising water levels and the overflow of the lagoon frequently result in the inundation of nearby communities, causing displacement, property damage, and hardship for residents.
Observers and community members have repeatedly called for long-term solutions, including dredging of the lagoon and the implementation of appropriate engineering and flood-control measures to reduce the impact of seasonal flooding on affected communities.

As affected residents continue to assess the extent of the damage, appeals are being made to government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders to provide immediate relief and pursue sustainable measures to address the persistent flooding problem in the area.
