Dear Mr. Paul Adom Otchere,
It is factual that your contribution towards the media and Democracy in Ghana is huge. Some may disagree with you and others may agree with you. That is the beauty of Democracy. However, my Brother, don’t you think that it is time to leave Togbe Afede XIV alone?
Granted, our Democracy permits you to criticize anybody at all irrespective of who the person is. But you will definitely agree with me that Monarchy or Royalty or in our context Chieftaincy is older than Democracy and revered by all of us. And must be preserved and protected at all costs.
Based on that, I would friendly like to suggest to you that, always responding to Togbe Afede XIV or using him as an example as you did again on your show yesterday, Tuesday, September 3, 2024, is becoming too frequent with you. And is not painting a good picture of the programme that “we all” watch and patronize.
I hardly create the time to watch the live programme, but I hardly missed the recorded versions on Wednesdays and Fridays. Because those are the days I exercise before stepping out of the house and listen to you as I exercise. Great show you have, with analysis that we enjoy, because these days not much well-informed programmes are on our media platforms.
Please Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asorgli State is a Traditional Ruler and a spiritual leader for his people like any other Chief in Ghana. And any time that you talk about him in “certain words”, may not be so palatable to sections of the citizens of Ghana. It is obvious you will argue that you are not there to please everybody.
I know Togbe has his communication team that work for him to respond to issues like this and I am not one of them. But I thought it wise to draw your attention to something that whether knowingly or unknowingly you are doing that is not so good, though it is your right.
You know Togbe more than many of us, including some of us who have not even met him before.
If you have something with Togbe, please just go to him and get it resolved. For, “repeating something over and over, can no way be considered as a coincidence”.
Let us together take our Chiefs; from the North to the South and from the East to the West, out of our political discussions, though politics is ubiquitous. Otherwise, we will end up damaging and destroying the last traditional institution that we have. Our Chiefs are unique, and we need to guard jealously our Chieftaincy institution.
Kindly keep the intellectual light on in your discussions, but kindly leave Togbe Afede XIV alone, because it is becoming too frequent.
I remain your humble audience as “we all” learn a lot from your programme.
Thank you.
Best wishes,
