A burst of severe gunfire was heard in the early hours of Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in the centre of Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou, near the air base. It is early days yet to determine what may have necessitated the shooting.
The gunfire began to be heard at around 00:45 (local time and GMT) in the heart of the Burkinabe capital, before ceasing around 40 minutes later.
"It was an unfortunate incident limited to the air base", a security source told the international media, without giving any further details, claiming that "the situation is under control".
