He was invited for questioning and later arrested and granted bail of Ghs2 million. His arrest according to reports is in relation to his involvement in the use of about Ghs320 million allocated to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), which he was the chairman.
The office of the Special Prosecuted (OSP) was established to investigate and prosecute corruption and corruption related cases in Ghana.
Earlier this year, Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report on Illegal mining was allegedly leaked to the public, which was not so good for the image of the NPP government.
This even led to a suit against him by one Mr. Gabby Okyere Darko, who is a private legal practitioner and a very influential NPP member.
In an interview with the media, Prof. Frimpong Boateng expressed that he feels victimized by the NPP government, which he is a member of and said that if his prosecution is what will save Ghana from the numerous difficulties, then so be it.
