A shooting incident in Ghana resulted in the death of 3 drivers who were transporting pepper and tomatoes from Bawku to Accra. Several others also sustained various degrees of injuries. The shooting, which took place on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, was carried out by unknown gunmen who attacked them on the highway.
The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The drivers said they decided to drive out of Bawku with their perishable goods after the police refused to grant them escort out of the community, which was the routing because of highway robbery on that stretch of the road.
The trucks were riddled with bullets sparking fear among the travelers who use that road on daily bases.
Unfortunately, that part of the country is described as one of the food baskets of the country. And there is the need for the government and security services to provide adequate security for the citizens travelling from there.
