(Health): A 2-year-old Boy Fighting for his Life after Swallowing Battery

A two-year-old boy is fighting for his life after swallowing a battery that exploded inside him.

The toddler by name Dylan Alejandro swallowed the battery, which burnt his throat, at his home in Cananea, Sonora State, north-western Mexico, last month.

The incident happened on the blind side of his family. It was only when they noticed him struggling to breathe that he was taken to a local hospital, where they were told he had swallowed the battery.

Sadly, due to the severe nature of his injuries, the boy was then transferred to another hospital in the state capital, Hermosillo.

A mother of 8 children, Nayeli Guadalupe Coronado Nino, told local media how her son Dylan suffered an oesophageal burn and an infection in one of his lungs after the battery burst inside his young body.

After several efforts, he was admitted to intensive care on October 23, 2022, where doctors said his blood was no longer processing oxygen. Which is a clear sign of danger. Report has that, surgeons can only operate on him when his oxygen levels are more stable.

From searches, swallowing a lithium coin cell battery can cause a life-threatening chemical reaction within two hours and proves fatal to at least two children in a year world-wide.
