A tragic news as seven family members were shot and killed in Bityi, Eastern Cape, South Africa on Wednesday night, 16 November, 2022. Three gunmen allegedly burst into a Homestead and opened fire.
The mass killing occurred at a Homestead in Tantseka Location at approximately 22:30. The three suspects forced their way inside and shot seven family members. Six died of their injuries at the scene and the seventh victim succumbed in hospital.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the victims are family relatives aged between 29 and 68, who were in mourning and arranging for the burial of their relative, Novotile Mgxada, 62, who was fatally shot last week.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are being investigated. And the Eastern Cape Organised Crime Unit has taken over a docket with seven counts of murder for further probing.
The acting provincial police commissioner expressed her shock at the murder of the seven mourners. She called on members of the public with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Colonel Mtshiyo, on 071-475-2292.
